Working Across the Village: Recent Projects and Improvements by the Parish Council

Throughout recent months, the Parish Council has continued to invest in improving community facilities, public spaces and play areas across Southwater, helping to keep them safe, welcoming and well maintained for residents.

At Beeson House, a number of maintenance and improvement works were completed, including an upgrade to the building's CCTV and door entry systems, repairs to the lift, adjustments to the main entrance doors and essential fire safety improvements. These works help ensure the building remains safe, accessible for everyone and fit for community use.

Across the village, routine maintenance has been carried out to public amenities, including the restoration of litter bins, repairs to the Worthing Road bus shelter, after someone has damaged the glass, and refurbishment of benches at Roman Lane and Larkspur Way.

New Christmas motifs have been purchased to replace the existing decorations, which have now reached the end of their operational lifespan. Local schoolchildren were invited to help choose the new designs, giving young people the opportunity to play a part in shaping the village's festive displays. The new motifs will be installed in Lintot Square and will help bring seasonal cheer to the community for years to come.

At Church Lane, maintenance work has been undertaken at the MUGA, including cleaning, treatment of playing surfaces and replacement of football nets. Drain covers were repaired and renewed to remove trip hazards, while sections of post and rail fencing around the facilities and car parks were replaced to improve safety and protect key areas of the site.

The Council has also continued to invest in its outdoor recreation facilities. Graffiti was removed from both skate park areas, protective treatments were applied to help prevent future damage, and a long-term maintenance programme is now in place for the Stakers Lane Skatepark. Play areas across the village have benefited from a range of repairs and improvements. At the Downs Link Play Area, damaged decking and playground equipment were repaired, while preventative maintenance was carried out on several timber play features to improve safety and extend their lifespan. Warren Drive Play Area also received upgrades, with damaged panels, platforms and fittings replaced, alongside refurbishment of timber elements throughout the site.

In addition, work is under way following the Council's independent tree survey carried out earlier this year. Priority tree works are currently being completed, while further recommendations are progressing through the tender process ahead of consideration by the Council.

These projects form part of the Parish Council's ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing community facilities, ensuring residents can continue to enjoy safe, attractive and well cared-for public spaces across Southwater. Photos taken by Delwood.
