Confirmation of Map Modification Order – addition of footpaths in the Courtland Wood area, Southwater (West Sussex County Council)

On 2 June 2026 West Sussex County Council confirmed the Notice of Modification Order made on 17 February 2026 was unopposed and without modification. Under Section 53 and Schedule 15 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, the notice of confirmation was made on 25 June 2026.
The effect of the order, confirmed as made, is to modify the Definitive Map and Statement for Horsham by the addition of:
Footpath 1:
From existing footpath 1658 on the southern boundary of Courtland Wood, running generally north, then east, then north, for approximately 653 metres, before intersecting with footpath 1660. Width varies between 0.35 metres and 1.1 metres.
Footpath 2:
Commencing at grid reference 515317, 127518 and running east, then northeast, for approximately 223 metres, intersecting with footpath 1660. Width: 1.1 metres.
Footpath 3:
Commencing at grid reference 515250, 127394 and running generally east, then south, for approximately 313 metres, intersecting with footpath 1658 on the eastern boundary of Courtland Wood. Width: 1.1 metres.
Viewing the Modification Order
The Order Notice will be advertised in the West Sussex County Times on 265June 2026.
The period for representations or objections runs from 25 June to 6 August 2026.
A copy of the Order and the Order Plan may be seen free of charge, by prior appointment, at the office of the Legal Services, County Hall, Chichester, PO19 1RQ, Horsham District Council and Southwater Parish Council during opening hours.
Order Plan may be purchased for £8.00 from Legal Services, County Hall.
Any person wishing to question its validity on the grounds that it is not within the powers of Section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, or that any of the requirements of Schedule 15 of the Act have not been complied with in relation to it, may under paragraph 12(i) of Schedule 15 of the Act, within 42 days from 25 June 2026, make an application to the High Court.
