- Flytipping of Green Waste
Recently within the village there have been reports of Illegal fly tipping of waste. Amongst this has been a large amount of green waste. Despite being compostable, this is still illegal and will still amount to a criminal offence. This could result in a Criminal Prosecution. Amongst this has been a large amount of green waste deposited on the "Red Route" near to Easteds Lane and the Allotments. On this occasion the Council was alerted and due to the green waste being found to be a fire hazard it was removed. If it had ignited it could potentially spread over trees and houses. It further would have amassed a large amount of smoke which would result in closure of the A24. Subsequently, redirecting traffic through the village. If you witness fly tipping please let the Neighbourhood Wardens or the Police know.

- Proposal: Tarmac Footpath between Nutham lane and Cripplegate lane Bus stop
Are you a user of the bus stop at the top of Cripplegate Lane/Cedar Drive? Whether you use the bus stop or not… Would you be in favour of improving access to the bus stop? We have received residents’ concerns that they find access to the bus stop difficult, mainly because there is no clear access route from Nutham Lane and neighbouring areas to the bus stop in question, meaning you must walk on the grass verge (see photos), which is not practical in the winter, or cross the road into Cedar Drive twice to then cross it again at the top of Cripplegate Lane. We are investigating improving the access to the bus stop by installing a tarmac path between Nutham Lane and Cripplegate Lane bus stop. With sufficient support from the community and residents in close proximity, this will enable us to progress drafting a Community Highways Scheme application to WSCC. The more support received the more it will improve the weight of the proposal in the assessment process. Letters have been delivered to those Neighborhoods within the vicinity. All residents are welcome to share there views via this google form (link below). https://forms.office.com/e/3ybxXx3K2p

- Southwater Skatepark Opening - 31 July 2023
We are thrilled to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us for the opening of the Southwater Skate Park, despite the weather! We also want to express our sincere appreciation to MP Jeremy Quin for taking the time to support the Parish Council and residents of Southwater at the opening ceremony, also Southwater Parish Councillors, staff, user consultation group, and contractors who worked behind the scenes to bring this project to completion to provide Southwater and the extreme sports community with an incredible recreational facility that will be cherished for years to come. Since its inception in 2006, the skate and BMX park has been a thriving hub for enthusiasts not only from Southwater and Sussex but also from neighbouring areas. Known for its exceptional timber surface riding experience, the skate park earned a reputation as one of the best in the South, catering to a transition style of skating, BMX, inline skates, and scooters. Throughout the rebuilding process, Southwater Parish Council actively engaged with the skate park users, maintaining regular contact with a dedicated user consultation group. This collaboration ensured that the new park's design resonated with the community's needs and preferences for a timber riding surface while incorporating innovative elements. The hybrid structure of galvanised steel and timber promises an exciting riding experience, reminiscent of the features valued in the original skate park. Although the journey to reopening was not without challenges, the opening of Southwater Skate Park, Ben's Field, Stakers Lane marks a significant milestone in the community's history, made possible by the efforts of everyone mentioned above, the Parish Council’s Skate Park Rebuild Project Earmarked Reserves, Section 106 contributions, and the Insurance Settlement received after the unfortunate fire incident in August 2020. We hope that the Southwater Skate Park will thrive as a place of friendship, and shared experiences encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle. Remember to always use it responsibly, respect one another and the facility itself, ensuring that this park remains a safe and enjoyable space for everyone for years to come. We look forward to working with the users, Southwater Youth Project and Southwater Community Partnership to organise more exciting events and activities in the future. Stay tuned for updates!

Important Announcement from West Sussex County Council Southwater Parish Council is pleased to share a significant update on behalf of West Sussex County Council (WSCC) regarding the installation of new public electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints in our county. WSCC, in collaboration with all seven district and borough councils and infrastructure specialist Connected Kerb, is planning an extensive rollout of thousands of chargepoints over the next decade at zero cost to the councils. This aims to enhance on-street charging accessibility and promote sustainable transportation throughout West Sussex. Over 170 chargepoints have already been installed, and 250 more are in progress. Locations were determined based on resident requests and Connected Kerb's site selection tool. We invite you to provide feedback on the proposed locations for the second phase. - New Dog Waste Litter Bin Coming to Charlock Way Open Space
Southwater Parish Council has commissioned the procurement and installation of a new dog waste litter bin for the Charlock Way Open Space. This development comes after extensive correspondence, numerous requests, and invaluable feedback from residents. Over the past couple of years, SPC have persistently advocated for an additional dog litter bin, but unfortunately, we were constrained by the capacity and available resources of Horsham District Council (HDC) to incorporate more bins into their collection schedules. However, we are delighted to share that HDC has now agreed to install the new bin and include it in their regular collections. Installation date expected to be in the next couple of weeks. As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing our community's environment, Southwater Parish Council is also actively investigating two other potential locations for additional dog waste litter bins following input from our Litter Wardens and extensive requests from residents. These areas include the Cripplegate Corner Bus Stop and in closer proximity to the Downs Link Play Area. While we are dedicated to pursuing these opportunities, we must operate within the criteria set by HDC for placement of bins and with their existing capacity to add more bins. We appreciate the patience and understanding shown by all residents throughout this process. If you are in approval to adding bins to the two locations above, please let us know so we can inform HDC of the community support.
- Southwater Summer Fest - 12:00-16:00hrs Thursday, 27 July 2023
Our Neighbourhood Wardens, Dom and Bettina, recently decided that they wanted to celebrate Southwater’s youth community by organising an event designed for the under 16s. Initially, the idea was to hire a mobile climbing wall but when they began to consult with other community groups it soon became clear that other organisations wanted to become involved. In collaboration with us - Southwater Parish Council and Horsham District Council, the Wardens then joined forces with Southwater Ghyll CIO, Southwater Community Partnership and Southwater Youth Project CIO to plan an exciting event full of activities and entertainment for young people. On Thursday 27 July 2023 between 1200-1600 hours at The Ghyll, there will be a mixture of free and subsidised activities for Southwater’s children aged from 3- 16 years. Please ensure that all under 8s are accompanied by an adult over 18. The main attraction is a FREE climbing wall (see below) paid for by donations from Horsham District Council and At Home Estate & Letting Agency. With inflatables, fun games, soft play areas, possibly gymnastics and dance plus arts & crafts activities as well as a music, there will be something for everyone. Representatives of Sussex Police and West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service will be on hand to answer questions about their respective jobs and show off their vehicles. HDC Youth Provision and Community Development Officers will be there with the Mobile Community Hub hopefully providing some free snacks. Budgens and Texaco Southern Co-Op are both donating free bottled water and soft drinks and there will also be an ice-cream van on site. Bettina (Neighbourhood Warden) said: “We are expecting at least 200 young people to engage with event across the afternoon and, with the range of fun activities and entertainment available, we hope to promote feelings of friendship and well-being that have a lasting and positive effect on the community. New activities are being added all the time as local sponsors make donations so look out on Social Media for updates as this event is getting more exciting all the time. We both look forward to seeing you all there.”
