SUCCESSFUL SKATEJAM

Submitted on Monday 13 September 2010 by Catherine Tobin

The Southwater Community showed their support on Sunday 12th September for the Family Fun Day and Skate Jam.

We were extremely fortunate with the weather and could not have asked for a better day.

Due to the rainfall in the days leading up to the event the ramp at the skate park was still damp and was assessed to be too dangerous for people to compete on the morning of the event. However the decision was made at 12 noon that the ramp had dried out enough to be deemed safe and the skate competition would take place at 2pm.

There were a select few that actually entered the competition but there were many skaters at the event that really supported the cause and it was a great day for people young and old to see what Southwater had to offer.

The whole purpose of the Skate Jam event was to raise awareness of the facility and we can safely say that was achieved with contacts made and now a lot of interest in the facility and people already asking us when the next one will take place!?

At the Country Park Café area we had Local radio station Trash Can Radio, who showed people what goes on behind the scenes at a radio station. Foolsgold performed a selection of songs to a very appreciative audience. West Sussex Fire Service who were a great attraction for the children who loved to climb in the fire engine. Montessori School who were there face painting all day. Tony the magician was a big hit with the children and a selection of acoustic performers who were amazing.

There was also a demonstration from the Fire Service Boat team on the lake that was a great crowd pleaser.

In summary the day was a success with the community pulling together, Southwater Parish Council having organised the event, would like to thank Southwater Country Park staff, Horsham Leisure Link, Southwater Youth Project, High Gain Promotions, Foolsgold, Trash Can Radio, West Sussex Fire Service, Tony the Magician, Thea Bredie (Southwater Montessori), Picture The Betrayal, Heroes v Villains, Southwater PSCOs, Want Medical Services, Sam Painter, Nick and Teresa Longdon, Tony Cash and everybody who showed their support on the day.
