Lintot Square - Refuse, Recycling and Cleansing Se

Submitted on Monday 11 January 2010 by Catherine Tobin

HORSHAM District Council is today giving the latest position on its refuse, recycling and cleansing services which cover the 205 square miles of the Horsham District.

All of the services have been affected by the recent severe weather.

In the event of no snow or little further snow over the weekend (9/10 January), the Council plans on Monday 11 January to be able to start phased collections of domestic refuse, to empty litter bins and glass banks (see below for details) and clinical waste, starting with collections which were due to be picked up on 6 January.

This will unfortunately mean that the collection of baskets of newspapers and magazines from Wednesday to Friday and mixed dry recycling from blue-topped bins from Wednesday to Friday will not now be collected until your next scheduled collection.

From Monday 11 January, there is also planned to be a collection of trade waste, starting with Wednesday collections which were due to be picked up from 6 January and also priority customers.

The Council also plans to provide collections at the following sites for residents, where they can take excess refuse in black sacks:

Southwater, beside Beeson House, Lintot Square – 9am to 11am

Horsham, Hurst Road car park – 12pm to 2pm

Steyning, St Cuthman’s car park between – 9am to 11am

Henfield, bus lay-by next to Wantley Hill estate – 12pm to 2pm

Storrington, Chanctonbury leisure centre car park – 9am to 11am

Ashington, bottom end of The Sands – 12pm to 2pm

Street sweeping and litter picking schedules will recommence as soon as it is safe to do so.

Glass banks - collections will be made from main sites only.

Litter bins - Horsham District Council’s cleansing crews will aim to empty all of the litter bins in the main village high streets and recycling centres. Horsham town centre’s litter bins will also be emptied and some more de-icing in the town.

Cesspool emptying – an emergency service only is being provided.

In the event of further snowfall at the weekend, causing further disruption, it will be necessary to review the above on Monday 11 January 2010, but the Council will attempt as a priority to be able to run the collections at the six sites identified above.
