HORSHAM DISTRICT COUNCIL HEALTH WALKS
All welcome to guided, free, sociable, HDC walks led by trained volunteers; no need
to book, just turn-up at the start point (if you are new to our scheme please arrive 15
minutes before the start time for registration). Programme booklet containing over
200 walks is available by contacting the Walks Co-ordinator on 01403 215269 or by
downloading from the website (enter Horsham DC Walks on a search site, e.g.
Google). Beginners are recommended to contact the Walk Leader to discuss
suitability. Forthcoming walks in the Southwater Parish and neighbouring areas are
as follows:-
Wednesday, 1st September, 10.30 am: Bax Castle, Two Mile Ash Road,
Itchingfield (near Christ’s Hospital School), four mile circular walk, some stiles and
modest climbs, over farmland and through woods. Meet at the pub car park. No dogs.

Friday, 10th September, 11.00 am: Southwater, 2 mile flat circular walk along
bridleways, country lanes and the Downs Link. May be muddy in places. Meet in the
Country Park car park (off Cripplegate Lane) TQ 161258. Dogs allowed on a
lead. 1 hour. The Park café will be open for refreshments at the end if you wish.

Thursday, 16th September, 10.00 am: George & Dragon, Dragons Green, near
Shipley, (the pub with a gravestone in the garden). 5 ½ mile circular walk on
undulating Wealden tracks and through woodland, Could be wet and muddy in places.
Meet in pub car park, good beer and excellent food (TQ 139235). No dogs. 2 ¾ hours.

Friday, 24th September, 11.00 am: Southwater, as for 10th September above.
Saturday, 25th September, 10.00 am: Itchingfield, 3½ mile circular walk (some
stiles and inclines) up Sharpenhurst Hill, giving excellent views of Christ’s Hospital
School and both the North and South Downs, then to Barns Green and back via
Muntham Lane. Meet (park outside) at Itchingfield School (TQ 132287). Dogs

Thursday, 30th September, 10.00 am: The White Horse, Maplehurst - Going
East 5½ mile circular Wealden walk through fields and woodland. Could be wet and
muddy in places. Meet in the pub car park, good beer and food (TQ 190246 RH13
