- Contact and talk to your parish clerk and chairman to find out more about your local council
- Talk to other councillors about the role of your council-what are its aspirations, is there a strategic plan or a community led plan?
- Attend a meeting of your parish council
- Look at the SALC website for the Guide for new Councillors. If you are interested, ask for a pack to be sent to you by contacting Jacqui.Simes@ruralsussex.org.uk
- Look at the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) website for more strategic issues relating parish councils
- Look at the new powers that the Coalition Government is introducing under the Decentralisation and Localism Bill. Do these interest you?
