We want to build and support strong, active and inclusive communities across the Parish to encourage people to take an active part in making decisions, delivering and influencing services across the Parish.
Social and Community Group
Analysis shows the population profile of the Southwater and surrounding countryside to be younger, more affluent and less unemployed compared with regional and national profiles and has grown rapidly in this profile. This is both a strength and opportunity as basis for change. Generally people say that Southwater is a good place to live. The focus group will address actions concerned with Social and Community issues in the Action Plan. These are contaned in the Plan Results published in May 2009. Key items of concern to people included affordable housing, leisure, education/schooling, young people and building community.
A small team is also working revsing and updating the Village Design Statement (VDS). This is a document to help influence decisions on design and development. We aim to develop a statement of the character of our village against which planning applications may be assessed. It is not about whether development should take place, but about how development should be undertaken so as to respect the local identity. It will describe the visual character of the Southwater Parish and demonstrates how the local character and distinctiveness can be protected and enhanced in new development. This is a basis applicable to all forms and scale of development, and is about managing change in the village, not preventing it.
If you would like to know more about the work of this Group and the VDS please contact the Communinty Partnership secretary Mrs Juliet Tydd in the first instance. Email firstname.lastname@example.org
